Brandon grew up the youngest of three in a conservative Christian household outside Detroit, Michigan and was kicked out by his parents when he came out as gay at the age of 16. He was forced to stay with friends and finish his final year of high school without their help.

His previos plans to join the military or go to one of the top Christian colleges quickly changed.
